There is a huge opportunity for freelancers right now that no one is taking advantage of.
In the last few months alone, I’ve talked to over a half dozen business owners and founders, all of whom have said the same thing: “I’d pay someone to do it for me right now.”
This is not traditional free writing, but it is directly related. And if you are looking for a sustainable online business that pays well and is in demand, this could be it.
Let’s talk about content modification.
What is content modification?
For years, blogging was the primary way for businesses and creators to share their ideas online. Then social platforms took over. First Instagram, then YouTube, then TikTok, now LinkedIn and newsletters.
The problem? Most creators, site owners and businesses can’t keep up.
They may have great content in one place, but don’t have the time or know-how to adapt it to every channel.
Race to create more content
With so many platforms competing for attention, this is hugely important for both individual creators and B2C or businesses alike. B2B brandsto continue. It’s not as simple as copying and pasting the same piece everywhere.
Each channel has its own format, style and algorithm. A blog post should inform and rank in search, while a TikTok or LinkedIn carousel should grab attention in seconds.
The reality is that most creators and brands simply don’t have the bandwidth to do it all unless they have a great content team.
This is why even established businesses have YouTube channels, blogs, or webinars gathering dust instead of working for them.
And that’s where you come in.

Where to find the hidden opportunity
There’s a job opportunity to be someone who helps creators and businesses create content regularly across channels by repurposing what they’ve already created.
For example:
- A webinar can be two blog posts, several LinkedIn posts, and a newsletter.
- A YouTube video can be turned into a set of TikToks and a podcast episode.
- A library of old blog posts can be updated for SEO, cleaned of outdated references, and turned into a year’s worth of LinkedIn updates.
But here’s the catch: you need to be an expert on each platform and know how to create high-quality content for it.
Here is an opportunity for freelancers. If you can become an expert in creating content for a particular platform or set of platforms, you can offer your services to businesses and creators who don’t have the time or expertise to do so.
What are some specific ways you can take advantage of this opportunity as a freelancer? Here are some ideas:
-
Turn long-form video content into blog posts, headlines, or social clips.
-
Turn webinars, white papers or reports into fresh blog posts and newsletters.
-
Manage social posts: scheduling, repackaging highlights and tracking performance.
-
Edit and shorten long videos into Reels, Shorts or TikToks.
-
Turn podcasts into articles, show notes, or emails.
-
Check and update old blog posts for SEO, accuracy and distribution on new platforms.
This is a great opportunity to jump on something right now.
While many companies focus on creating more content with AI, they lose sight of the value of what they already have.
Changing the content changes this way of thinking. Instead of adding to the general flood of content, you help differentiate their best content by making it more visible, more relevant, and more strategic.
And the best part?
For creators and businesses, it feels like a ton of extra work. For you, it’s just a matter of breaking down what’s already there and reshaping it for the right channel.
That’s why people and brands are willing to pay for it. It gives them more capability and more leverage without slowing down the pipeline, and that’s invaluable.
How to start modifying content
I know many people who are looking for this service right now. The key is to make your offer simple, repeatable and valuable to the customer.
Select a lane and enter everything. If you’re a strong writer, offer to turn videos, podcasts or webinars into brilliant blog posts and newsletters. If you’re good at editing, focus on turning long videos into Shorts, Reels or TikToks.
If I were starting today, I would focus on:
- YouTubers who need blog posts, LinkedIn updates, and newsletters made from their videos.
- Podcasts that need transcripts, articles and emails to support each episode.
- B2B brands with outdated blog archives, old webinars or white papers can be updated, re-optimized and repackaged for new platforms.
While many businesses are chasing “more, more, more” with AI, the smarter ones are realizing that they will stand out by getting more mileage out of their best work.
This is where repurposing becomes not just a treat, but a competitive advantage.
Now, you are probably thinking, how can I offer this service?
Here is a simple example. Start with a YouTuber. They produce long-form content, but usually don’t have time to adapt it elsewhere.
Send a cold email and offer to take one of their videos, transcribe it with a tool like Otter.ai, and turn it into a polished, SEO-optimized blog post for their website. This is the main service.
From there, you can increase your sales by taking key quotes or offers and turning them into LinkedIn posts, Instagram captions or Tweets. With a single video, you’ve just created an arsenal of content they can use across multiple platforms.
The work itself is not complicated. The goal is to establish a repeatable process. In the beginning, you can pay less to gain experience or even do a few projects at a discount.
But once you’ve perfected your system, you can begin to package your services into clear offers with fixed rates, making it easier to scale and earn a solid hourly rate.
Using AI to help transform content
Artificial intelligence (AI) is becoming a common tool for repurposing, but the reality is this: most creators and businesses don’t have the time, interest, or confidence to put it to good use. They prefer to hire someone who can do the job and make sure it feels human.
This is where you enter. By combining AI tools you can produce faster, better results with your own judgment and creativity.
For example:
- Use transcription tools (such as Otter.ai) to convert video or audio to text, which you can turn into a blog post.
- Use AI summaries to quickly extract key points, then turn them into LinkedIn posts or email newsletters.
- Use AI rewriting tools to draft variations of headlines, titles or intros, then refine them to match the brand’s voice.
It’s not about handing everything over to AI. Let the tools handle the tedious first pass while you focus on strategy, clarity, and tone. Then, once you get a good notification, save it and use it to speed up processes.
If you can master a few tools and a human touch, you’ll save time and make your services more valuable to customers fed up with robotic, low-quality content.
Start changing your content today
Thus, TL; DR is:
The bottom line is this: businesses and creators already have the raw material – they just need someone to make it work more for them.
This will help them grow their platform, brand and business, and your business at the same time. Plus, you’ll develop a valuable skill set and proposition. I wouldn’t be surprised if you have a lot of creators knocking on your door.
Changing content is something that should be explored both now and in the years to come.
